  2. Traveling between matches

Full disclosure: we have already planned our hotels and flight to and from South Africa.  Because we are lucky enough to be attending a quarter- and semi-finals match, and the finals, we had to start booking pretty far in advance.  Hopefully we’ll be able to share some of what we learned over the next few weeks.

One of the big logistical pieces I haven’t worked out yet is how we’ll be traveling around SA between matches.  We’ll be starting in Johannesburg, then Cape Town, Durban, Kruger National Park (safari!!), and back to Johannesburg for the finals.

It looks like we’ll be flying on South African Airways in most cases, but I wonder if any of you are going to try to drive or take the train?  The NYTimes published a helpful article back in August about going to the World Cup where they - accurately - pointed out that getting between cities there is going to be, um, a little more challenging than, say, in Germany.

What’s your travel plan between matches?

  3. World Cup Bound

Last week’s World Cup draw meant the beginning of my real, earnest trip planning for South Africa.  I figure there must be a lot of you out there doing the same, and even though I consider myself a fairly experienced and very zealous traveler, this trip has continued to prove to be a challenge.  Maybe we can do it together?

    So… here it goes!
